Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday said the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) must sustain its profitability and continue expanding its fleet to strengthen the country’s maritime sector.
He made the statement at the State Guest House Jamuna while receiving a Tk 203.47 crore cheque from BSC as loan repayment and dividend share for FY 2024–25. The payment was made under the Subsidiary Loan Agreement for six previously procured vessels.
Prof Yunus emphasized long-term planning to boost income, create jobs for seafarers, and ensure skilled manpower by retaining qualified marine academy trainers.
BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek said BSC earned a record profit of Tk 306.56 crore with nearly Tk 800 crore in revenue last fiscal year. He added that BSC is continuing ship acquisition initiatives to further expand its fleet and commercial capacity.
