Bangladesh Narrows Gap with China in EU Apparel Market

Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) exports to the European Union increased by 7.65% to €18.05 billion during January–November 2025, according to Eurostat. The growth comes amid shifting global trade patterns triggered by new US tariffs, which redirected garment shipments toward Europe.Despite the annual rise, exports declined 10.87% year-on-year in November, as garment unit prices fell by 3.25%, although export volumes increased 11.26%. Over the past year, unit prices dropped more than 12%, intensifying price competition in the EU market.Bangladesh remains the second-largest garment exporter to the EU, narrowing the gap with China. Meanwhile, exporters have urged the government to secure EU GSP Plus status ahead of Bangladesh’s LDC graduation in November, warning that losing duty-free access could significantly hurt export competitiveness.
