The government has initiated plans to establish nine new industrial factories across Bangladesh to generate employment and stimulate economic growth, said Commerce, Industries, Textiles, and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir in parliament.
The initiative focuses on expanding key industrial sectors, including fertilizers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, paper, and manufacturing. Several projects are currently at different stages, ranging from pre-feasibility assessments to detailed techno-economic studies and development planning.
Key projects include a UF-85 plant at Ghorashal, a 400,000-tonne TSP fertilizer factory, a starch and API complex in Khulna, expansion of Karnaphuli Paper Mills with multiple chemical units, and a chloro-alkali plant in Chattogram. Plans also include a modern glass factory in Ashuganj, a new urea factory in Bhola, and an eco-friendly insulator and sanitaryware plant.
Additionally, the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) will continue developing industrial parks to facilitate private sector investment. Currently, 83 BSCIC industrial estates host over 6,200 industrial units nationwide.
The government aims to expand such initiatives based on feasibility, resource availability, and investor demand to further reduce unemployment and accelerate industrialisation.
