Merchandise exports from Bangladesh declined for the eighth consecutive month in March 2026, reflecting continued pressure from global market volatility, particularly in the garment sector.
According to data from the Export Promotion Bureau, export earnings fell by 18.07% year-on-year to $3.48 billion during the month.
The country’s key export segment, ready-made garments (RMG), recorded a sharper decline. Garment exports dropped by 19.35% to $2.78 billion, highlighting weakened global demand and order reductions.
Despite a strong inflow of remittances in March, merchandise export earnings hit their lowest level in recent months, underlining the growing imbalance between external income sources.
The continued downturn signals ongoing challenges for Bangladesh’s export sector as global economic uncertainty and reduced consumer demand impact trade performance.
