Bangladesh has offered the use of the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal as an alternative route for handling cargo from Bhutan to improve connectivity and ease congestion at Narayanganj River Port.
The proposal came during the 10th Commerce Secretary-level meeting between the two countries. Officials also agreed to deepen bilateral trade, expand product coverage under the Bangladesh–Bhutan Preferential Trade Agreement 2020, and explore the possibility of a future Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Both sides also plan to sign a tourism cooperation MoU between Bhutan’s Department of Tourism and Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
In addition, the countries agreed to strengthen standards cooperation between the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution and the Bhutan Standards Bureau to facilitate smoother trade. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached $85 million in 2025, with Bangladesh serving as Bhutan’s second-largest export destination.
