NAFFIC and AWARE™ have introduced the world’s first China–Europe Digital Product Passport (DPP) for textiles, marking a major step toward supply chain transparency and EU compliance.
Announced at a sustainability summit in Suzhou, the DPP aligns with the European Union’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which will become mandatory by 2027.
The system enables full traceability of a textile product—from recycled raw materials to finished garments—using blockchain technology. Consumers and regulators can access verified data on material origin, production processes, and carbon footprint through a single QR code.
The pilot project tracks recycled polyester made from post-consumer plastic bottles in China, processed into yarn, fabric, and garments for a European brand. Each stage is securely recorded and independently verifiable.
This innovation shifts supply chain power toward manufacturers by making them the primary source of compliance data. It also reduces certification costs through automated blockchain-based transaction certificates.
Industry leaders believe early adoption of Digital Product Passports will give manufacturers a competitive advantage as global regulations on sustainability and transparency tighten.
