China Shows Interest in Investing in Bangladesh’s Industrial Revival

Bangladesh has invited China to invest in several closed fertiliser factories and jute mills to revive production and create jobs. The proposal was discussed at a meeting between Yao Wen and Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the Secretariat on 25 February.

The commerce minister said six fertiliser plants have faced repeated shutdowns due to gas shortages. The government is seeking investors capable of importing LNG to restart operations and has assured it will purchase the fertiliser produced.

China also expressed interest in expanding investment in Bangladesh, focusing on industrial revival and employment generation. The minister further invited Chinese investors to explore opportunities in closed jute mills and highlighted cooperation in digital infrastructure, e-learning centres, and artificial intelligence.Senior officials from the commerce ministry were present at the meeting.
