Five students from Bangladesh’s leading textile universities have earned the prestigious Innovation Black Belt (IBB) Certification from the Textile Today Innovation Hub (TTIH), marking a significant milestone in bridging academic knowledge with real-world industrial innovation.
The recipients are Ashikur Rahman (NITER), Nasif Ahmed Prattoy (BUTEX), Tahsin Islam Toru (BUFT), Rominur Rahman Talukdar (BUTEX), and Md Abdul Ohab Shams (BUTEX).
The program involved 128 hours of structured training alongside 128 hours of hands-on industrial project implementation, providing participants with practical exposure to real manufacturing challenges.
Three students—Tahsin Islam Toru, Rominur Rahman Talukdar and Nasif Ahmed Prattoy—conducted their project at Blue Creations Limited titled “From PP to Planet: A Sustainable Denim Wash Transformation with Zero PP All In.” The project aimed to eliminate the use of potassium permanganate (PP) in denim washing, reducing environmental impact. The developed process cut washing time from 277 minutes to 171 minutes and reduced water consumption from 5,650 liters to 4,450 liters while improving productivity.
Ashikur Rahman (NITER) completed his research at Denitex Limited on ozone-caused discoloration in cotton-based fabrics, analyzing the effects on 100% cotton, cotton-spandex and recycled cotton fabrics and identifying chemical solutions to mitigate the issue.Meanwhile, Md Abdul Ohab Shams (BUTEX) earned his certification in Fabric Technology through a project at South West Composite Ltd. titled “A Practical Method for Calibrating Knit Dyeing Machine’s Main Vessel Water Scale Through Calibrated Side Tanks.” The project focused on improving machine calibration accuracy to ensure consistency in knit dyeing operations.
The projects were conducted under the supervision of industry experts including Md Nasir Ullah, Country Director of Officina +39.
The certificate handover ceremony was attended by prominent industry figures including Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, Convenor of the Institute of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET) and Executive Chairman of Textile Today.
The Innovation Black Belt program by TTIH continues to bridge the gap between academia and industry, equipping young textile engineers with practical expertise and innovation-driven skills for Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector.
