Listed textile company Shasha Denims will invest Tk350 crore to develop the Ghorashal Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Narsingdi through a joint venture, according to a stock exchange disclosure.
The project will be implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) with Bangladesh Railway on a design, build, finance, operate, maintain and transfer (DBFOMT) basis. A 30-year concession agreement has already been signed.
A special purpose vehicle, Ghorashal ICD and Port Limited, has been formed to execute the project, where Shasha Denims currently holds a 90% stake. The company said the ownership structure may change later with the inclusion of strategic investors.The ICD will be built on 20 acres of Bangladesh Railway land, which will be provided on a rental basis. In return, the railway will receive 15% of the project’s total revenue.Construction is expected to be completed by 2028, after which commercial operations will begin. The depot aims to improve the movement of import-export cargo between Chattogram and Mongla ports.Shasha Denims reported Tk1,128 crore in consolidated revenue in FY25, while profit declined to Tk21.68 crore. On Tuesday, the company’s shares closed at Tk16, up 4.58%.
