The newly elected 15th Council of the Institution of Textile Engineers & Technologists (ITET) held a meeting with Dr. Md. Abdus Sabur, Director General of the Department of Textiles, to discuss key initiatives for advancing Bangladesh’s textile education, skills development and sectoral administration.
The discussion covered expediting pending promotions, regularising 118 personnel of Textile Vocational Institutes (TVIs), updating textile curricula and revising recruitment rules for teachers and officials.
ITET also proposed greater professional representation in textile curriculum and policy committees, with participation from industry and academic bodies including BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA, BUTEX and BUFT. Potential collaborations with leading Chinese universities were also discussed to expand advanced education and training opportunities for textile teachers and students.
The council further proposed establishing a modern textile training academy in Rupnagar, Mirpur, and a dedicated Textile Education Board to strengthen the management and development of TVIs.
The meeting emphasised stronger collaboration among government, academia, industry and professional institutions to develop skilled human resources and enhance the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s textile sector.
Dr. Md. Abdus Sabur welcomed the proposals and instructed relevant officials to take necessary steps toward their timely implementation.
