Bangladesh Exports Reach $4.43 Billion in August, RMG Growth Accelerates

Bangladesh’s merchandise exports rose 13.14% year-on-year to $4.43 billion in August 2026, supported by strong growth in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector and several non-RMG industries, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

RMG exports increased 13.92% to $3.89 billion, with knitwear rising 14.88% and woven garments 12.70%. During July–August, total RMG exports grew 5.12% to $7.50 billion.

Several non-RMG sectors also recorded significant growth in August. Jute and jute goods exports increased 37.09%, while pharmaceuticals rose 28.52%, leather and leather goods 24.85%, printed materials 24.83% and engineering products 23.88%.

During the first two months of FY2026–27, Bangladesh’s total merchandise exports increased 5.43% to $9.16 billion, compared with $8.69 billion in the same period last year.

The United States remained Bangladesh’s largest export destination, while exports to emerging markets also showed strong growth. Shipments to Türkiye surged 141.03% in August, while exports to South Korea and Saudi Arabia increased 42.37% and 42.09%, respectively.

The EPB attributed the growth to stronger demand in key markets, increased buyer confidence, expanded production capacity and rising exports of value-added products.

The latest figures highlight a positive start to the new fiscal year, while continued growth in non-RMG sectors remains important for reducing Bangladesh’s heavy dependence on apparel exports.
