BGMEA Steps Up Market Diversification Drive with First Coordination Meeting

Market development and diversification has been identified as a key priority by the present board of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to ensure the sustainable growth of the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry.In line with this objective, BGMEA held its first coordination meeting with the Chairmen and Co-Chairmen of the Market Development Standing Committees on 17 January 2026 at the BGMEA Complex. The association plans to organize similar meetings on a regular basis to strengthen coordination and accelerate efforts toward market expansion.

The meeting reviewed a wide range of issues, including upcoming international trade fairs, buyer engagement initiatives, market development strategies, visa-related challenges, and export opportunities in both traditional and non-traditional markets.The session was chaired by BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman. Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Director of BGMEA, and M. Shajedul Karim, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Trade Fair and Events, were also present at the meeting.

Chairmen of various Market Development Standing Committees attended the meeting, including Poritosh Chandra Paul (Argentina), Mamun Reza Jake (South Africa), Shofiqul Alam (France), Md. Nasir (Singapore and Malaysia), Md. Shafiqul Alam (UAE), and Md. Jewel Hossain (China). Co-Chairmen Md. Iqbal (Singapore and Malaysia) and Md. Amir (UAE) were also in attendance.

Mike Ge, President of the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB), joined the meeting and shared insights on China-Bangladesh business relations. He also provided an overview of the upcoming BCGTX fair, scheduled to be held in May 2026.

During the discussion, participants shared their views and put forward several recommendations aimed at strengthening market outreach, enhancing buyer engagement, and expanding Bangladesh’s apparel exports across key global markets.
