The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Embassy of France in Dhaka have discussed strengthening bilateral trade relations, with a particular focus on boosting Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) exports to France and the broader European market.
A BGMEA delegation met with Julien Deur, Head of the Economic Department at the French Embassy in Dhaka, to explore new avenues of cooperation. The BGMEA team included Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Director Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Trade Fair and Events M Sajedul Karim, and Chairman of the Standing Committee on France Market Development Md Shofiqul Alam.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized expanding market access, enhancing business linkages, and facilitating smoother trade operations between Bangladesh and France. Discussions also centered on marketplace development initiatives and potential green financing mechanisms aimed at supporting sustainability transformation within Bangladesh’s RMG sector.
The two parties underscored the importance of environmentally responsible production practices, technological advancement in circularity, and maintaining strong compliance standards across factories. They also highlighted the need for structured matchmaking platforms to connect manufacturers, international brands, buyers, and technology providers.
In addition, the meeting stressed promoting Bangladesh’s RMG industry globally by showcasing its progress in sustainability, workplace safety, and responsible manufacturing practices.The engagement reflects growing efforts to deepen economic ties between Bangladesh and France while positioning the country’s apparel sector as a competitive, sustainable sourcing destination in the global market.
