The BGMEA has issued a cautionary notice to its members regarding dealings with US-based buyer Zinntex LLC over an unpaid shipment.
According to an official letter issued on 16 March, Zinntex LLC purchased 96,576 pieces of ready-made garments from Doreen Garments Ltd, valued at approximately $678,413, but has yet to settle the payment.
BGMEA noted that several member factories are currently engaged in business with the same buyer and advised all exporters to notify the association before entering into transactions with Zinntex LLC. Failure to do so will leave companies solely responsible for any potential risks.
A representative from Doreen Garments Ltd stated that the shipment was delivered nearly 20 months ago without a letter of credit, after which the buyer declined payment. A legal case has since been filed in a US court, while attempts by BGMEA to initiate arbitration were unsuccessful due to the buyer’s absence.
The development highlights growing concerns over payment security and due diligence in Bangladesh’s export-oriented garment sector.
