China Unveils 3 Key Energy Proposals at APEC: Focus on AI, Access, and Governance

China has proposed three major initiatives to strengthen regional energy cooperation at the 71st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Working Group meeting held in Jiangxi Province. The proposals focus on expanding universal energy access, accelerating the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into energy systems, and enhancing coordinated energy governance across the Asia-Pacific region.

China emphasized the importance of inclusive development to ensure equitable energy access for all economies through regional collaboration and the adoption of diverse technologies. It also highlighted the need to fast-track innovation by aligning strategies and standards to deepen AI integration in energy infrastructure.

Additionally, China called for stronger coordination mechanisms to improve transparency, resilience, and efficiency in regional energy governance. This includes promoting policy dialogue and strengthening information-sharing frameworks among APEC member economies.

He Yang, Deputy Head of China’s National Energy Administration, stated that the country remains committed to building a secure, resilient, and affordable energy system in the Asia-Pacific region. He added that China aims to contribute practical solutions to global energy security, stability, and sustainable development.

He further noted that the Asia-Pacific region plays a dual role as both a major global energy consumption hub and a key driver of energy production and transformation.
