Vietnam, Japan target $60bn trade, $5bn annual investment by 2030

Vietnam and Japan have signed six cooperation agreements, aiming to raise bilateral trade to $60 billion and annual Japanese investment in Vietnam to $5 billion by 2030.

The agreements were finalised during high-level talks between Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, marking a new phase in their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Both countries plan to expand cooperation in high-tech sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, energy, and supply chains, alongside increased technology transfer and market access.

Bilateral ties have already strengthened, with trade surpassing $50 billion in 2025 and investment rising significantly. Japan remains Vietnam’s top ODA provider and a key economic partner.

Going forward, both sides aim to deepen collaboration in digital transformation, renewable energy, and economic security, positioning Vietnam as a critical hub in global supply chains.
