Vietnam to establish government delegation for international trade negotiations

Vietnam is set to establish a specialised government delegation to oversee international economic and trade negotiations as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s global trade engagement and coordination framework.

According to an official decision recently approved by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, the delegation will be headed by the minister of industry and trade.

The newly formed body will support the prime minister in directing ministries, government agencies and local authorities in negotiating, signing, ratifying and implementing international economic and trade agreements and treaties.

Officials said the delegation will play a central role in developing negotiation strategies, policy frameworks and participation plans for Vietnam’s involvement in bilateral, regional and multilateral trade agreements.

The body will also advise the government on negotiation objectives, strategic priorities and implementation road maps aligned with Vietnam’s national interests and long-term socio-economic development agenda.

According to local reports, the delegation will be responsible for coordinating with ministries and relevant agencies during the preparation and execution of trade negotiations, while also recommending solutions to challenges that may emerge throughout the negotiation process.

The framework additionally includes consultation with businesses and industry stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure broader economic interests are reflected in negotiation priorities.

Authorities noted that, in urgent or strategically sensitive cases involving national interests, the prime minister may form separate specialised delegations for specific negotiations.

Analysts say the move reflects Vietnam’s continued efforts to strengthen its international trade positioning and improve institutional coordination as the country expands its role in global supply chains and trade partnerships.
