Bangladesh’s denim industry has emerged as a global success story, steadily transforming itself into a leading force in the international apparel market. Industry reports indicate that since its modest beginning in 1984, the country has grown into the top exporter of denim apparel to both the European Union and the United States.
According to desk reports, Bangladesh has significantly expanded its denim manufacturing capacity over the past decade, with the number of denim fabric mills rising to nearly 50. Local mills are now meeting around 60 percent of the country’s denim fabric demand, strengthening supply chain efficiency and export competitiveness.
The sector’s growth has been supported by a cost-competitive workforce, expanding green-certified factories, and increasing global demand for sustainable sourcing. Industry estimates suggest Bangladesh exported nearly $2.6 billion worth of denim garments to the EU and US markets last year, marking a strong year-on-year increase.
Experts believe shifting global sourcing strategies away from China, alongside continued investment in advanced manufacturing and sustainability, will further reinforce Bangladesh’s position as a global denim powerhouse.
