Bangladesh will participate in 50 international trade fairs across 27 countries during the 2026-27 fiscal year (FY27) as part of a strategic initiative to diversify export destinations, strengthen global market presence, and create new business opportunities for local exporters.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) held at its headquarters in Dhaka. The meeting also announced that the 31st Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) will commence on January 1, 2027, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce.
The international exhibitions will showcase products from 12 priority export sectors, highlighting Bangladesh’s manufacturing capabilities while helping local businesses connect with overseas buyers, distributors, and investors.
Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said the initiative is designed to support exporters, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), many of which lack the financial resources to independently explore international markets.
He noted that participation in global trade fairs would enable SMEs to strengthen international business networks, identify new buyers, diversify export destinations, and enhance their competitiveness in the global marketplace.
The minister identified leather and leather goods, light engineering, and agro-processing as high-potential sectors capable of achieving double-digit export growth, alongside Bangladesh’s established apparel industry.
He also emphasized the importance of nurturing emerging entrepreneurs and startups, saying today’s successful businesses began as small enterprises and should receive the necessary support to become the country’s future export champions.
The EPB’s international trade fair programme is expected to play a key role in promoting Bangladesh’s export diversification strategy, reducing dependence on traditional markets, and strengthening the country’s position in the global trading system.
