Adamjee Export Processing Zone (EPZ) has surpassed $1 billion in annual exports, marking a major transformation from the former Adamjee Jute Mills site into a diversified export and employment hub.
According to the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), Adamjee EPZ generated $1.179 billion in exports in FY2025–26, following exports of more than $1 billion in FY2024–25. Its cumulative exports have reached $11.112 billion, while total investment stands at around $847 million.
Located on the former Adamjee Jute Mills land in Narayanganj, the 292-acre EPZ currently hosts 47 operating factories and employs 76,027 people. Another 10 factories are under construction, which could raise annual exports to around $1.5 billion and direct employment to more than 100,000.
The zone has increasingly diversified beyond conventional garments. Its factories now produce apparel, bridal wear, safety footwear, automotive components and other specialised products for international markets.
Companies operating in the EPZ supply global brands including Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors and Van Heusen. Universal Menswear, Super Protective Shoes, TS Tech Bangladesh and UBF Bridal are among the companies contributing to the zone’s growing high-value manufacturing base.
UBF Bridal, for example, produces premium wedding and evening wear for markets across Europe, the United States and other international destinations, while TS Tech Bangladesh manufactures automotive seat-trim covers for Japanese vehicle manufacturers.
The transformation represents a major shift from the former Adamjee Jute Mills, once one of the world’s largest jute mills. The mill was shut down in June 2002 after years of financial losses and operational difficulties. The government subsequently transferred the industrial land to BEPZA, and Adamjee EPZ was formally inaugurated in March 2006.
Since then, the site has evolved into a modern industrial and export centre, attracting both domestic and foreign investment.
With 10 additional factories under construction and growing production of specialised and higher-value products, BEPZA expects Adamjee EPZ to further strengthen its contribution to Bangladesh’s export earnings, industrial diversification and employment.
