thyssenkrupp Uhde’s subsidiary Uhde Inventa-Fischer has secured a contract to build a large-scale PET resin plant for KÖKSAN in Yumurtalık, Türkiye, strengthening the region’s polyester supply chain for textile and packaging applications.
The new facility will have an annual production capacity of 324,000 tonnes of PET resin and is scheduled for commissioning in 2028. In addition to packaging uses, the plant will support fibre-grade applications, including bulk continuous filament (BCF), widely used in carpets, upholstery, and technical textiles.
The plant will utilise Uhde Inventa-Fischer’s Melt-To-Resin (MTR) process, a continuous polycondensation technology that eliminates conventional production steps, resulting in lower energy consumption, reduced costs, and higher material yield. The process is also expected to cut carbon emissions by up to 30%, aligning with growing sustainability demands in the textile industry.
The investment marks a strategic move by KÖKSAN to expand its global footprint across fibre and packaging markets, supplying PET resin to regions including Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Africa.
Industry experts note that such capacity expansions are crucial for ensuring a stable supply of polyester raw materials, which remain a dominant component of global textile production. The project also highlights increasing industry focus on energy-efficient and environmentally responsible manufacturing technologies.
