The Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) has called for stable, transparent and predictable fiscal policies to strengthen business confidence, attract investment and support sustainable private sector growth in Bangladesh.
The call came during a seminar titled “National Budget 2026–27: Impact on Business, Trade, and Investment”, held on 5 July at The Westin Dhaka. The event brought together business leaders, policymakers, tax experts and officials from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to discuss the implications of the FY27 national budget on trade, investment and economic growth.
Speaking as the chief guest, Anja Kersten, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the German Embassy in Bangladesh, emphasized that a transparent, predictable and business-friendly fiscal framework is essential for strengthening Bangladesh’s investment climate and expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Germany.
Senior NBR officials, including Md Tariq Hassan, First Secretary (Customs: Policy and ICT), Md Mashiur Rahman, First Secretary (VAT Policy), and Nusrat Farzana, Deputy Commissioner of Taxes, participated in the discussion and shared insights on the government’s latest tax and customs policy initiatives.
Delivering the keynote presentation, Snehasish Barua, Partner at Snehasish Mahmud and Co., outlined the major fiscal measures proposed in the FY27 budget, focusing on changes in taxation, customs duties and VAT policies and their expected impact on businesses and investors.
Moderating the session, BGCCI Senior Vice President Md Farooque Khan highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between the public and private sectors to improve the country’s business environment and strengthen long-term economic competitiveness.
BGCCI President Md Rokonuzzaman reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to facilitating constructive engagement between policymakers and the business community while promoting trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany.
The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion where participants exchanged views on taxation, customs procedures, VAT reforms and other investment-related issues. BGCCI Director and Event Chairman Md Jahangir Alam Sharker closed the programme by reiterating the chamber’s commitment to supporting sustainable economic development through stronger public-private collaboration.
