The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and HSBC Bangladesh have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at expanding global market opportunities and strengthening the international competitiveness of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry.
Under the collaboration, the two organizations will jointly organize a large-scale Bangladesh Apparel Roadshow in Hong Kong, creating a platform to connect Bangladeshi apparel manufacturers with international buyers, global fashion brands, and strategic business partners. The initiative is designed to diversify Bangladesh’s export destinations beyond traditional markets, particularly by increasing engagement across Asia.
The partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 12 July 2026 at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka. The agreement was signed by Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of BGMEA, and Md. Mahbub ur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh.
The initiative will also complement BATEXPO, Bangladesh’s premier textile exhibition, by strengthening international buyer engagement and promoting the country’s apparel manufacturing capabilities, innovation, and product diversity.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mahmud Hasan Khan said HSBC’s extensive global banking network and established relationships with leading international apparel buyers would help Bangladesh attract new sourcing partners that have not yet significantly sourced from the country. He noted that the Hong Kong Apparel Roadshow would serve as an important platform to broaden Bangladesh’s export footprint and open new business opportunities.
Md. Mahbub ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, described the apparel sector as the cornerstone of Bangladesh’s economy and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting its continued growth. He emphasized the importance of understanding evolving global sourcing patterns and buyer preferences through comprehensive market research to strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the international apparel market.
He also encouraged BGMEA to prioritize key strategic initiatives focused on expanding global market access, improving supply chain efficiency, and increasing Bangladesh’s share in international apparel trade. HSBC, he said, would work closely with BGMEA on policy engagement and international market facilitation to achieve these objectives.
Delivering the welcome address, Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Director of BGMEA, said the partnership reflects the shared commitment of BGMEA and HSBC to creating a stronger global platform for promoting Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
The collaboration will focus on three strategic priorities: expanding access to new export markets through the Hong Kong Apparel Roadshow, strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the global apparel value chain, and showcasing the industry’s technological advancement, modernization, and sustainability initiatives to international stakeholders.
The event was also attended by Inamul Haq Khan, Senior Vice President of BGMEA, BGMEA directors and standing committee chairpersons, along with senior officials from HSBC Bangladesh, including Md. Ashfaquor Rahman, Head of Global Supply Chain, Corporate and Institutional Banking, who reaffirmed HSBC’s support for the sustainable development and global competitiveness of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
