Chinese Delegation Eyes FDI, Tech Collaboration in Bangladesh Textile Sector

A high-level Chinese delegation has held talks with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to explore foreign direct investment (FDI) and technology partnerships in Bangladesh’s textile sector, with a focus on man-made fibres (MMF), synthetic textiles, and advanced processing.

The delegation included senior representatives from the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and the China Dyeing and Printing Association (CDPA), along with executives from leading dyeing, printing, and chemical companies.

During the meeting at the BGMEA Complex, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan highlighted Bangladesh’s strong potential as an investment destination, particularly pointing to its $8–9 billion annual woven fabric import market as a key opportunity for foreign investors.

He encouraged Chinese firms to invest in high-growth segments such as MMF and technical textiles, either independently or through joint ventures, assuring full support from BGMEA.

Discussions also focused on technology transfer, with both sides emphasising the need for training and knowledge-sharing in areas like digital printing and synthetic fabric processing to accelerate industry modernisation.

Sustainability emerged as another priority, with Bangladesh seeking to leverage China’s expertise in eco-friendly dyeing and finishing technologies to meet evolving global compliance standards.

To strengthen business linkages, the Chinese delegation was invited to share company profiles and production capacities to facilitate B2B engagement with local manufacturers. The visiting team also toured several dyeing and printing facilities during their visit.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation, aiming to drive sustainable growth, enhance competitiveness, and support long-term development of Bangladesh’s textile and garment sector.
