ITET Election 2026: GG Panel Presents Strategic Roadmap for Institutional Growth

As the Institution of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET) prepares for its upcoming election, the Go Green (GG) Panel convened an interactive discussion with senior members of Bangladesh’s textile engineering community to present its vision for the future of the organisation and gather industry feedback.

The event, held at the Lotus Lounge of Uttara Club Ltd. in Dhaka, brought together prominent textile engineers, technologists, academics and industry leaders, including graduates from various batches of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX). The session served as a platform for dialogue on institutional development, leadership priorities and the evolving role of ITET in supporting Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector.

Moderated by Engr. Prithila Kamal, the programme began with remarks from Engr. A.S.M. Hafizur Rahman Nixon, Secretary General Candidate of the GG Panel, who introduced the panel members and outlined their strategic priorities for strengthening the institution.

Among the distinguished speakers were Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Zulhash Uddin, Vice Chancellor of BUTEX; Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice Chancellor of BUFT; Engr. Md. Shamsuzzaman, CIP, Managing Director of Micro Fibre Group; Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Managing Director of HAMS Group and former President of ITET; Engr. Abdus Sobhan, Managing Director of Auko-Tex Group; Mahbubul Alam Milton, Executive Director of MASCO Group; and Engr. Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, Convenor of the Interim Convening Committee.

During the discussion, participants highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing professional training opportunities, fostering leadership development and building stronger collaboration between academia and industry. Speakers stressed that an active and capable ITET leadership would be essential for effectively representing textile engineers and supporting the continued growth of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry.

Speaking at the event, GG Panel President Candidate Engr. Md. Enayet Hossain emphasised the need to establish a permanent headquarters for ITET, describing it as a key institutional priority.

“Despite serving textile engineers for more than four decades, ITET still does not have its own permanent facility. Establishing an ITET complex would create opportunities for professional training, networking, recreational activities and sustainable revenue generation,” he said.

Engr. Nixon highlighted the panel’s commitment to expanding policy engagement and professional development initiatives for textile engineers across the country.

“Our objective is to ensure that textile engineers have a stronger voice in policy-making processes. We also aim to introduce more training programmes, leadership development initiatives and career support services for young professionals entering the industry,” he said.

Addressing the significance of the upcoming election, Senior Vice President Candidate Engr. Sumayel Md. Malik described the vote as a pivotal moment for the institution.

“After more than a decade, ITET members will once again have the opportunity to elect their leadership through a democratic process. We are committed to building a transparent, professional and forward-looking institution capable of serving the interests of textile engineers effectively,” he said.

The event concluded with an open exchange of ideas between senior industry leaders and GG Panel representatives. Participants expressed optimism that stronger collaboration, strategic leadership and institutional reforms could help transform ITET into a more influential professional body, better equipped to support future generations of textile engineers and contribute to the long-term success of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector.
