The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen sustainable textile manufacturing and advance colour science education in Bangladesh.
The partnership aims to enhance the technical capabilities of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry through education, applied research, innovation, and international knowledge exchange. It also seeks to promote sustainable manufacturing practices while preparing the industry to meet evolving global sustainability and compliance standards.
Speaking on the collaboration, Mijanur Rahman, Vice President (Finance) of BGMEA, said Bangladesh’s apparel industry has made significant progress in sustainability and responsible manufacturing. He noted that the partnership with SDC would further strengthen the industry’s technical expertise, foster innovation, and equip professionals with science-based knowledge and skills required to meet future global expectations.
Mohammed Sohel, Director of BGMEA, described the initiative as an important step toward connecting Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector with global expertise in colour science and sustainable innovation. He said the collaboration would help develop a future-ready workforce while accelerating the adoption of environmentally responsible technologies across the industry.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Graham Clayton, CEO of SDC, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to driving sustainable innovation and providing Bangladesh’s textile industry with world-class expertise in colour science.
Yogesh Gaikwad, Director of SDC International (UK), added that the collaboration demonstrates SDC’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices and equipping textile professionals in Bangladesh with advanced knowledge in colour science and bio-based solutions.
Through the strategic partnership, BGMEA and SDC aim to support the industry’s long-term transformation by combining international expertise with local industry needs, ultimately strengthening Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global textile and apparel market.
