UAE–Jordan Sign $2.3 Billion Deal to Build 360 km Railway Network

The United Arab Emirates and Jordan have signed an agreement to develop a 360-kilometre railway network and establish the UAE-Jordan Railway Company, aimed at strengthening logistics and export capacity.

The railway will connect major mining sites in Al-Shidiya and Ghor Al-Safi to the Port of Aqaba, enabling the transport of around 16 million tonnes of phosphate and potash annually.

The $2.3 billion project was signed by UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei and Jordan’s Transport Minister Nidal Al-Qatamin. The joint venture includes Abu Dhabi’s L’IMAD Holding and Jordanian stakeholders, with Etihad Rail leading execution and operations.

Officials said the project will improve export efficiency, reduce transport costs and time, and support job creation and broader economic development in Jordan.
