Bangladesh and Ethiopia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on trade, investment and sectoral collaboration following a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman met Ethiopian President Taye Atskeselassie to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, education, agriculture and cultural exchange.
During the discussions, Rahman highlighted the importance of strengthening economic engagement and identified priority areas such as ready-made garments (RMG), pharmaceuticals and jute products. He also called for the establishment of an Ethiopian embassy in Dhaka to facilitate closer diplomatic and commercial ties.
President Taye welcomed increased investment from Bangladesh, particularly in the garment and pharmaceutical sectors, and emphasised the need to enhance business-to-business engagement between the two countries.
Officials noted that stronger collaboration could unlock new opportunities for both economies, especially as Bangladesh seeks to diversify export markets and Ethiopia aims to attract foreign investment to support its industrial growth.
The meeting also underscored the broader importance of South-South cooperation, with both sides expressing interest in building long-term partnerships across emerging sectors.
