BUTEX Journalists’ Association (BUTEXJA) elected its 2026–27 Executive Committee on 29 July (Wednesday) through a peaceful election held on the university campus, coinciding with the celebration of the association’s 10th founding anniversary.
Voting took place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the association’s office. Later in the afternoon, the newly elected committee formally assumed office during a handover ceremony held at the university auditorium, followed by the anniversary celebration.
According to the election results, Ratul Saha, University Correspondent of Banglavision, was elected President, while Md. Mahadi Hasan Chowdhury, University Correspondent of Channel 24, was elected General Secretary. The new executive committee also includes Alvee Ahmed of The Daily Campus as Vice President, Md. Tarek Rahman of The Daily Inqilab and Md. Rafi Sarower of Pratidiner Bangladesh as Joint General Secretaries, Shefaq Mahmud of The Daily Nayadiganta as Office, Publicity and Publication Secretary, Nazmul Islam of Asia Post as Finance, Sports and Cultural Affairs Secretary, and Md. Shahriar Islam of Khobor Protidin as Executive Member.
The election results were announced by Assistant Election Commissioners Dr. Md. Murad Ahmed and Md. Sohag Babu in the absence of Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Farhad Hossain. A cake-cutting ceremony was also held to commemorate a decade of the association’s journey.
The programme was attended by Professor Dr. Md. Julhash Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of BUTEX, Professor Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman Khan, Director of Student Welfare, Engineer Md. Enayet Hossain, President of the Institution of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET), Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed Selim, Chairman of the Textile Engineering Division of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Md. Russell Ahmed, General Manager of Emmtex Solutions BD Ltd., Palash Mahmud, Editor and Publisher of Asia Post, and Md. Asaduzzaman, Senior Sub-Editor of The Daily Samakal, among others.
Speaking at the event, Engineer Md. Enayet Hossain described the association as a reflection of both the university administration and its students. He urged campus journalists to maintain professionalism by verifying information before publication and encouraged the newly elected committee to continue serving the student community with responsibility.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Julhash Uddin congratulated the newly elected committee and praised the transparent and democratic election process. He encouraged the members to uphold truth, ethics, and responsible journalism while contributing to student welfare.
Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed Selim welcomed the new committee and described the journalists of BUTEX as “the conscience of the university.” He advised them to carry out their responsibilities with honesty, professionalism, and dedication.
Expressing their reactions after the election, President-elect Ratul Saha said he would work to strengthen constructive journalism and make the association a trusted platform for students by combating misinformation and unethical reporting. General Secretary-elect Md. Mahadi Hasan Chowdhury said he was grateful for the confidence placed in him and pledged to work with all members to make the association more dynamic, accountable, and effective in the days ahead.
