The Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) and AWARE™ have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help India’s powerloom industry prepare for the European Union’s upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements, strengthening traceability and global competitiveness across the textile value chain.
The agreement was signed during Bharat Tex 2026 in New Delhi by K. Sakthivel, Chairman of PDEXCIL, and Feico van der Veen, Founder and Managing Director of AWARE™.
The partnership comes as the European Union moves forward with the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), under which textiles have been identified as a priority sector for Digital Product Passport implementation. The new framework will require manufacturers supplying European markets to provide transparent and verifiable information on product origin, material composition, and production history.
Under the collaboration, AWARE™ will provide blockchain-based traceability infrastructure that enables textile producers to create authenticated Data Tokens for every production batch. The technology records verified information on fiber origin, composition, and manufacturing credentials, creating a secure digital chain of custody that follows products throughout the supply chain.
The system also enables manufacturers to generate blockchain-issued Crypto Transaction Certificates (Crypto TCs®) and establish the digital data foundation required for future Digital Product Passports, while ensuring producers retain full ownership and control of their production data.
As part of the MoU, PDEXCIL will introduce the platform to its member companies through industry workshops, training sessions, webinars, and awareness programmes. AWARE™ will provide preferential commercial terms, technical support, onboarding, and training to verified PDEXCIL members to facilitate adoption.
Commenting on the partnership, Feico van der Veen, Founder and Managing Director of AWARE™, said the future of textile compliance depends on verified data generated at the source rather than reconstructed later in the supply chain.
PDEXCIL Chairman K. Sakthivel said the collaboration would help Indian powerloom manufacturers strengthen traceability capabilities, meet emerging international compliance requirements, and enhance their competitiveness while maintaining ownership of their operational data.
The two organizations plan to launch pilot implementation projects with selected PDEXCIL member companies in the coming months.
