Saudi Arabia Eyes $1 Billion Investment in Bangladesh’s Ports and Strategic Infrastructure

Saudi Arabia has expressed strong interest in investing up to $1 billion in Bangladesh’s ports, railways, and other strategic infrastructure projects, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and attracting greater foreign investment.

The commitment was announced during a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and a high-level Saudi delegation led by Rumaih Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister for Transport and Logistic Services of Saudi Arabia, at the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the Saudi delegation revealed that Red Sea Gateway Terminal International plans to invest $180 million in the development of Bangladesh’s proposed Bay Terminal, with ambitions to expand its overall investment in the country’s port sector to $1 billion in the coming years.

The delegation also informed the prime minister that several Saudi companies are actively exploring investment opportunities in Bangladesh across strategic sectors, reflecting growing confidence in the country’s improving investment climate.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman welcomed the proposed investments and highlighted Bangladesh’s investor-friendly policies, emphasizing the government’s commitment to creating a competitive business environment and accelerating infrastructure development.

He encouraged greater Saudi participation in large-scale infrastructure projects, noting that enhanced foreign investment would contribute to economic growth, trade expansion, and employment generation.

Both sides discussed ways to deepen bilateral economic cooperation and agreed to continue detailed discussions on prospective investment projects through future joint meetings.

The Saudi delegation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening long-term economic ties with Bangladesh and extended an invitation to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit Saudi Arabia for further high-level engagements.

The proposed investments are expected to support Bangladesh’s efforts to modernize its transport and logistics infrastructure while reinforcing its position as an emerging regional trade and investment hub.
